“I never regret anything. Because every little detail of your life is what made you into who you are in the end” – Drew Barrymore
Each month at Everyday Young we aim to profile an inspirational woman who we think is doing a pretty good job at loving herself and taking care of herself! We are all unique and different and we all need to figure out what works for us in terms of diet, exercise and mindset. By showing you what other different women are doing we hope that it inspires you with some new and interesting ideas of things that you can incorporate into your life and wellness routine!
Our inspirational woman of the month is the super successful actress, director and hands-on mama of two beautiful girls Drew Barrymore! Drew is also the poster child for natural beauty and her Instagram is littered with gorgeous no makeup selfies, she often posts all of her beauty secrets now being the CEO of her own beauty brand Flower Cosmetics. Read on to hear all of Drew’s beauty and wellness ideas and see how she keeps herself looking amazing at forty-two years young! Let’s do a breakdown of her diet and exercise, natural beauty regime and her mindset towards ageing!
EXERCISE + DIET:
For exercise Drew does gym workouts but mostly favours yoga and pilates along with hiking and spending time being active with her best girlfriends! Drew does not focus on having the perfect body and as a Mum says that she would much rather have her kids and spend time having fun with them than hyper-focusing on looking any certain way!
In 2013 Drew came under fire and was labelled ‘anti-feminist’ for saying that women could not have it all on the cooking show ‘On The Table’. She said at the time that it was hard to balance everything and at times certain things would fall off the table but the most important things will always stay on the table. Sadly in 2016 Drew and the father of her two children got divorced. At the time she said that she felt like an absolute failure and let herself go mentality and physically. When she directed and acted in the Netflix show ‘Santa Clarita Diet’ she said that she felt that she found herself again through her feminist character and realised how important it is to take care of YOU. Since then she proudly marched in the New York women’s march with her ex-husband and daughter Poppy right along side her.
Drew healed and transformed herself while losing almost ten kilograms through following a mostly plant based vegan diet that included only small amounts of fish or chicken at dinner time. She worked with nutritionist and yogini Kimberly Synder author of the ‘The Beauty Detox Solution’. Kimberly recommends eating tonnes of greens, smoothies, salads on a primarily unprocessed, whole foods vegan diet. Read her whole diet philosophy here!
“[Sheila] gave me a wake-up call in my own life. In the script, she’s sort of dead inside, kind of going about her daily monotony with a lack of enthusiasm and courageousness. And I found this whole thing came to me at a time when I could have used a wake-up call myself,” Drew said. “So I decided to have one alongside her, lose 20 pounds, pluck a gosh-darn row of eyebrows or two, lighten my hair, change attitudinally, and go through an evolution alongside of her. It was so positive for me over the Summer of 2016. And now that it’s 2017, I’m like, this show is so perfect for right now.” – Drew Barrymore
BEAUTY REGIME + AGEING MINDSET:
Most of the time Drew opts for minimal makeup however she is a big fan of a bright lip for special occasions! She is also a bit of a lipstick junkie. Being a busy mum Drew is also a fan of ‘on the go’ makeup and a special favourite is her foundation stick that she created for Flower Cosmetics. She says that it works really well to cover any hyper-pigmentation or dark circles – really important for new mums! She also swears by a shea butter based moisturiser that contains natural goodies like vitamin E to nourish the skin and help prevent ageing. Drew has also been using Bioderma micellar water for years for makeup removal. Check out her whole glammed up makeup routine that she did for Vogue! (Interestingly enough she uses an SPF powder on top of her makeup for sun protection!). She is passionate about sharing her beauty knowledge to help women to feel good about themselves RIGHT NOW and not obsessing about turning back the clock or worrying about what is ahead of them.
Drew tries to stay as natural as possible however once per year she goes and has laser work done to remove any brown spots that pop up after Summer or due to pregnancy. Drew Barrymore has also famously said that she refuses to use fillers or botox and instead really takes care of her skin by using facial masks frequently. A favourite mask of hers to use is the Korean Hanacare mask. Drew is really into Korean beauty brands and has been on several research trips to Korea for her beauty brand Flower (Korean beauty is definitely something that we are interested in learning more about!) ♥
