I find peace when I don’t see my body as my enemy, when I step back and have appreciation and look at all that my body has done for me. It’s allowed me to give birth to three beautiful children, allowed me to explore different roles as an actor, and allowed me to be strong.” – Demi Moore (as cited in Harper’s Bazaar)
At fifty-nine years young Demi Moore looks amazing! She is aging gracefully and seems to finally be at a place where she is really relaxed and happy within herself. I had no idea until I started researching for this piece that she had had such a disadvantaged childhood. To overcome such adversity and to become so successful is quite an achievement!
Let’s do a breakdown of Demi’s diet, exercise and attitude:
Demi Moore Diet:
Demi Moore has been known in the past to follow a strict raw foods diet.
What is a raw foods diet? It is a diet of only plant-based foods, raw fruit and vegetables, nuts and seeds. Everything is consumed in it’s natural or raw state. For optimal digestion vegetables and fruits are often juiced, or blended so that great quantities of greens can be consumed and the nutrients can be quickly absorbed into the blood stream to give direct nourishment to cells.
You can lightly heat blended food in winter say to make a ‘soup’ but ideally, it will be heated to no more than 118 degrees. According to proponents of the diet cooking our food changes the structure so that it is harder for our bodies to digest and damages the vital nutrients and antioxidants in the food that our cells needs to repair themselves from recurring free radical damage.
A balanced raw food diet contains a lot of greens, a lot of fruits and a small amount of nuts, seeds and healthy fats like avocado. The large majority of raw food followers follow the 80/10 /10 approach which is 80% carbohydrates, 10% protein, and 10% fat. Followers can fall into problems when they don’t eat enough greens and consume too many nuts. i.e. eating a lot of ‘nut heavy’ dessert type food. Often keeping food simple is best for our bodies! (I personally think that 70% carbs, 15% protein, and 15% fat is better for our bodies – I am not into low-fat diets!)
It is unclear as to whether Demi is still strictly following this diet plan or whether she has relaxed a bit and is now just trying to eat a mostly clean, organic vegan/vegetarian diet. I believe that having this solid foundation of approx. 10 years of raw food really would have done wonders for keeping her body at its optimal weight and helped to significantly reduce aging.
Exercise:
In the past, often for movie roles Demi would put her body through punishing work-out routines for often hours a day! These days, however, Demi has relaxed a lot and is known to be a huge lover of Pilates and yoga and will often attend yoga retreats particularly to deal with any increase in stress to her life.
Demi has also worked with the trainer Gregory Joujon-Roche who owns Real Raw Live in Hollywood. He is said to create a synergy of change by focusing on three things; nutrition, spirituality and physical wellness – sounds great! He also teaches holistic self-care by teaching his clients to take the time to look inward, find their centre and then learn to create balance rather than focusing on so-called ‘problem’ areas of their bodies when they work out.
Attitude:
Although in the past Demi say’s she was more interested in how she looked and staying ‘skinny’ her attitude to her body has rapidly changed as she has gotten older to more of a place of love and acceptance. She tries to focus on the positives when she looks in the mirror instead of finding flaws. She also teaches her daughters to love themselves and their bodies also ♡
